Editorial Review for Carpenters' Historic Hall – by Maura Johnston
In Short
Carpenters' Hall was designed by Robert Smith as a place for carpenters to hold their guild meetings. The Carpenters' Company, formed in 1724, is the oldest trade guild in the United States; it continues to maintain the building. Carpenters' Hall played host to 1774's First Continental Congress; chairs used for that meeting are on display. Colonial building methods are also examined, and a selection of late 18th century carpentry tools also is available for viewing.
